Abstract
Several cases with the involvement of the intracranial artery in Takayasu¡¯s arteritis have been reported, but the occlusion of the intracranial artery is not reported. A 28-year-old female patient presenting with the left hemiparesis and dysarthria during 2 days. Brain MRI showed acute infarction in the right putamen, insula and operculum. Conventional and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) showed the occlusion of the distal M1 portion of the right middle cerebral artery (MCA) and occlusive and stenotic lesions of the aortic branches. On 4 days, MRA showed partial recanalization and focal stenosis in the occlusion portion of the right MCA. Long-term follow-up angiography showed the similarity compared by previous MRA and conventional angiography. We suggest coexistence of thromboembolism and the involvement of the MCA as the cause of the occlusion of the MCA in a patient with Takayasu¡¯s arteritis. (Korean J Stroke 2008;10:58-61)
